80a Framlingham  undated

Received your letter and am glad you are keeping alright. Regarding the spit and polish business it does not mean we are going out to the middle east, or going abroad at all, only that the heads of the army consider that spit and polish should be dished out to the men in England so that when and if they go in to action their fighting power should be two fold in strength because of the spit and polish they did when they were inactive. Of course darling do not be disappointed if you fail to see the point quite honestly I do not. So little Nell has been doing a bit of common flagging, well perhaps she will realize how fed up we got when we have to do that kind of work and believe me we do quite a lot of it, incidentally tell Nell that the A.T.S. do quite a lot of that work too. Darling it nearly slipped my memory to tell that I was in to Newcastle on Saturday and popped into Mrs Fenny's place she was surprised to see me and she made me quite welcome. I had tea there which included one boiled egg, also I am to receive comforts from some place she knows. They have not altered one bit , Connie may have got a little slimmer but that is about all. Mr Fenny opened the door , it took him a little time to recognize my face but he said he knew the voice, the next time I am in Newcastle I will look them up again. Must close now darling,
Cherrio,

Syd
