56 Saxmundham 3 undated 1941

Dear Marjorie
Received your parcel of cigarettes for which contents I thank you. I am sorry to hear that you have been providing meals for the gnats, although you may be pleased to hear that I have been keeping you company, those gnats certainly have been enjoying themselves with me, heck, my arms, legs and face are all bumps caused by those dam little gnats. Well Darling I am pleased you are OK after the air raid, was it a bad one darling? Yesterday, I went to the dentist to have some teeth stopped, the dentist seems to have made a good job of them although he cut my gums about a bit, but the holes were near the gums so I guess I must not complain but I can assure you I was pleased when he had finished the job. We here are still on strict training which includes shoots, night occupations, etc. although at B.H.Q. I do not do so badly, it is a fairly easy life than at the troop, the part I like is that the regimental staff is practically cut out, one does very little blancoing and generally they are a untidy lot which I am sorry to say will get me into bad habits for when I get back into the troop. I am still hopeful of having my forty eight hour pass on the 9th but as you must now realize that any thing may cause me not to have it on that date so all I can do is to hope for the best.I think I had better close now,
Cherrio darling
Syd.

P.S. I mention about chocolate that I said I would send home, well if I come home on the 9th I will bring it with me also the blanket, could you send me some writing paper . Cherrio!
