Dear Marjorie
Just a note to let you know that I am still in the army. My turn has come round again for a day pass, this time I have visited Leiston and the place is another bright dump like Aldeburgh the only difference is that it is not a seaside village, one just walks and walks, of course this is a very healthy sort of amusement but a very tiring one at the same time. We do not get many bombs here and things are fairly quiet. A plane crashed into the officer's mess the other day and made a terrible amount of damage but nobody was killed. One officer had a broken arm and two ribs broken. One or two batman were injured but everything is under control now. We here have found a nice house where we can get some food and tea. We use the person's living room and things are very cheap, for instance egg on toast three cups of tea (and one can taste the sugar) and a buttered scone for six pence, this is very cheap. I consider the old man has about 150 fowls and twenty pigs so I have plenty to talk about, he also knows Northolt and Acton fairly well, this makes me feel slightly nearer home and the nearer I am to home the better I like it,
