"E" TROOP--495 FIELD BTY.
C/O GPO SAXMUNDHAM

Dear Marjorie
I am settling down to army life again, but the week I was away has seen a great change here, things have become very strict. At leased two chaps are put on a charge a day, also the stand-to, are becoming to many in number for my liking, I cannot remember whether I told you that we have moved in my last letter, but we have. We are sleeping in billets which is much better than those dug outs, but the mud is still some thing terrible here. Well darling it hardly seems if I have been home, every thing here has come back so natural no time is given for one to get over their leave but still I guess leave will come round again fairly quickly. Now darling just a few lines regarding my wants, firstly send me some fags, hundreds if possible, we cannot get any here even in the village which is three miles away, we cannot get them. My pop has a pound of mine so perhaps you will use that for a week or two. Another thing darling, I do not suppose I shall be able to write a lot to you because the time one has to spare is almost nil. We are on twenty four hours duty here, as long as we stop at this place, also the posting of letters is very difficult. I am writing this note on Friday but when it will be posted is another matter. I am writing this note while I am supposed to be cleaning a lorry so I think I will stop writing and start cleaning.
