41 Saxmundham 18.3.41

I received your third parcel today, my you have got me a good supply of fags, although they will soon go. This afternoon I have been given a day pass, which lets me go to a dump called Aldeburgh, it is a real dead and alive place. Heck, hardly worth coming here, there is nothing to do here but walk around. It will be impossible for you see me when I get these half-day passes, they start at two and finish at 9.30 so I think we will have to wait until I get my leave again before I see you. I was surprised to hear that Mrs Finny's daughter got married, in fact, I was surprised you heard from her at all, I had completely forgotten them. Heck you seem as though you have been busy these days with digging the garden, I bet you were tired by the time you finished it, it  is a very tiring job, but still I guess it is worth it if you produce something. I should imagine one gets more satisfaction by producing something than destroying things. I am glad Russel made some nest boxes for the fowls they really needed some, perhaps you will thank him for me. I will write later onto G & R. Poor Hilda seems always to be in difficulty, it was rather a rotten trick of those people but I guess you cannot rely on the best of people. I guess I will close now as the boys want to have another walk around this marvellous village. We walk for half an hour then sit for the same time, it is a great time we are having, one thing we can say, we have seen the sea this year because this place is a small seaside village.
